There is a minimum 15′ setback from the septic system and all components to the water’s edge of the pool. There’s a minimum 3’ setback from the septic system and all components from the concrete decking edge of the pool. If you have a septic system, you’ll want to contact your town, county, or municipality to get a copy of your septic permit so you know its location to determine the placement options for your pool.

When you have a swimming pool, specific rules tell you how much of your property you can cover with solid materials like concrete or buildings. This amount is called the impervious limit. The impervious limit helps to manage rainwater and prevent flooding.

So, to determine how much impervious surface remains for the pool, you would subtract the space needed for coping and the size of the equipment pad from your impervious limit. You can have a swimming pool if there is still enough space left within your impervious limit.

It’s important to note that different towns, counties, or municipalities may have their own rules about impervious limits and additional options for managing rainwater, such as stormwater mitigation. So, if you want to have a larger impervious surface than your limit allows; you may need to explore these options provided by your local authorities.

How much coping and decking you decide to put around your pool depends on factors such as preference, impervious surface limits, space limitations, and more. The most common configuration is to have two sides next to the pool to have 1 foot to 3 feet for walking around the pool. The other two sides should have at least 6 feet for lounge chairs, tables, or additional seating.

There are many approved options for the barrier around your pool, such as wood, PVC, aluminum, and chain link. NC Code requires a barrier all the way around the pool, but the barrier does not have to enclose the entire property. Working with a licensed contractor who understands the requirements for fencing around a pool is essential. 

The North Carolina State Building Code Appendix V, Section AV105 Barrier Requirements for a Swimming Pool requires that the top of the barrier shall be at least 48 inches above grade with no more than 2 inches clearance between grade and the bottom of the barrier with openings no bigger than 4 inches (size of a coke can), as well as self-closing and latching gates. Groundwater Pump: If significant groundwater is present when digging your pool, there is an option to install a groundwater pump to help alleviate the water from causing sink divots in the bottom of your pool. 

Extended Electrical Installation: Our quote includes the electrical needed for your pool when the panel installation is at your house. If you want or need your panel to be an extended distance from your home, there’s an additional charge.
