There is a minimum 15′ setback from the septic system and all components to the water’s edge of the pool. There’s a minimum 3’ setback from the septic system and all components from the concrete decking edge of the pool. If you have a septic system, you’ll want to contact your town, county, or municipality to get a copy of your septic permit so you know its location to determine the placement options for your pool.

When you have a swimming pool, specific rules tell you how much of your property you can cover with solid materials like concrete or buildings. This amount is called the impervious limit. The impervious limit helps to manage rainwater and prevent flooding.

To have a swimming pool, you must ensure enough space within your impervious limit. For example, you need to keep a minimum distance around the pool called coping, about 1 foot wide around your pool’s edges. You also need space for the equipment pad, where the pool equipment, like filters and pumps, are placed. Usually, the equipment pad takes up an area of either 3 feet by 5 feet or 3 feet by 8 feet.

So, to determine how much impervious surface remains for the pool, you would subtract the space needed for coping and the size of the equipment pad from your impervious limit. You can have a swimming pool if there is still enough space left within your impervious limit.

It’s important to note that different towns, counties, or municipalities may have their own rules about impervious limits and additional options for managing rainwater, such as stormwater mitigation. So, if you want to have a larger impervious surface than your limit allows; you may need to explore these options provided by your local authorities.

How much coping and decking you decide to put around your pool depends on factors such as preference, impervious surface limits, space limitations, and more. The most common configuration is to have two sides next to the pool to have 1 foot to 3 feet for walking around the pool. The other two sides should have at least 6 feet for lounge chairs, tables, or additional seating.

Yes, your vinyl liner pool can be up to 8 feet deep, but not any deeper due to the diving envelope required. The most common depth is 6 ½ feet, and usually only deeper when there is a diving board.

There are many approved options for the barrier around your pool, such as wood, PVC, aluminum, and chain link. NC Code requires a barrier all the way around the pool, but the barrier does not have to enclose the entire property. Working with a licensed contractor who understands the requirements for fencing around a pool is essential. 

The North Carolina State Building Code Appendix V, Section AV105 Barrier Requirements for a Swimming Pool requires that the top of the barrier shall be at least 48 inches above grade with no more than 2 inches clearance between grade and the bottom of the barrier with openings no bigger than 4 inches (size of a coke can), as well as self-closing and latching gates. Like anything new to us, when you first have a pool, it will take longer as you learn how to do everything. But once you’re used to the weekly routine, we estimate it will take 30–60 minutes weekly. In North Carolina, the average estimated cost for your pool is $125/month for chemicals and electricity (without a heater). For the warmer months, the price will be closer to $150–175/month; during the cooler months, it will be closer to $75–125/month.

Pool equipment will be similar in noise to your HVAC units. The pool also has a timer so you can schedule it when the equipment runs so that you can decide when you want the noise to occur. Typically during pool season, you will run the equipment for 12-14 hours/day (without water features). In the winter, you’ll run your pool equipment for 3-5 hours/day.

Covering and winterizing your pool is a matter of preference. There isn’t a requirement to cover or winterize your pool. The trade-off to not covering or winterizing it is that you must pay attention to the temperatures and make adjustments. Still, you get to enjoy seeing the beautiful pool in your backyard! 

If you do decide to cover it, the water will get warm under the cover. You’ll want to anticipate spending some time getting it clean when you open it in the spring, but you won’t have to do anything with it while it’s covered.

The most common configuration is to split the pool into thirds—one-third is the shallow end, one-third is the transition area, and one-third is the deep end. This configuration can vary depending on factors such as tanning ledges and the depth of your pool.

Typically, a vinyl liner will not need to be replaced for 10-12 years and is most commonly an aesthetic choice. However, sometimes tears can happen in the corners as the liner ages. Dirt Removal: We include a rough grade of the remaining dirt after backfilling the pool around the pool walls. If there is more dirt than you’d like to keep, there are additional dirt removal charges. 

Groundwater Pump: If significant groundwater is present when digging your pool, there is an option to install a groundwater pump to help alleviate the water from causing sink divots in the bottom of your pool. 

Extended Electrical Installation: Our quote includes the electrical needed for your pool when the panel installation is at your house. If you want or need your panel to be an extended distance from your home, there’s an additional charge.  

Additional Water Delivery: We supply 2 loads of water (approx. 12,000 gallons) during liner installation to get the pool up and running the same day. This water will only partially fill your pool, so you can fill the rest with your garden hose or have additional water delivered.
